Alpha runs in over 50% of prisons in the UK
The Prison population in the UK is more than 85,000 and continues to increase. Our vision is that every inmate will have the opportunity to explore the Christian faith through Alpha.
Alpha can give prisoners a chance to ask life’s big questions and find out about the Christian faith in a safe, informal and friendly environment.

Alpha in prison offers...
Quality
Alpha is sustainable because the local church carries the workload of planning, hosting and presenting Alpha, under the supervision of the Prison Chaplain. Alpha is run in full cooperation of the prison authorities.
Sustainability
Alpha has been attended by millions of people around the globe. In 2017, over 52,000 people experienced Alpha in all kinds of prisons. Resources and training materials are continually updated and made relevant for the prison context.
Security
Alpha volunteers are required to attend security training before they start to work in prisons. Alpha prison training is provided by our National Alpha Office in partnership with the prisons.
How to run Alpha in Prison
Train
Our Prisons team from the Alpha office will provide training for you and your team. Alpha is sustainable because the local church carries the workload of planning, hosting and presenting Alpha under the supervision of the Prison Chaplain. Alpha is run in full cooperation of the prison authorities.
Pray

Make sure to register your Alpha with the UK National Alpha Office before starting.
